Together with Ericsson Taiwan, SwedCham had the pleasure of co-hosting a visit to Ericssonโs Taipei Lab, offering participants a rare behind-the-scenes look into the innovation shaping tomorrowโs telecom landscape.
The visit began with an insightful overview of Ericssonโs legacy, from its founding in 1876 to its leadership in 5G and vision for 6G ๐.ย Attendees explored the labโs vital role in R&D and its contributions to next-generation network innovation, both in Taiwan and globally.
๐ฌ A guided tour of the Device Lab followed, featuring live demonstrations of 5G and IoT device testing.ย A standout moment was entering the anechoic chamber, a silent, sponge-lined space engineered to absorb sound and block radio signals.ย This unique environment enables precise testing of antenna performance, wireless connectivity, and IoT devices ๐ฑ๐.
Amid all the advanced technology, one small detail brought a smile to many: a green bag of ไนไน (Guฤi Guฤi) placed near some equipment. In Taiwan, it is a popular superstition among engineers that these snacks help machines โbehaveโ and run without problems, thanks to the colour green, symbolising all systems go, and the name itself, which translates to โbe goodโ. It was a light-hearted example of how cultural traditions can find a place even in the most high-tech environments ๐.
The lab visit also highlighted how Ericsson collaborates with global and local innovators such as MediaTek and how it supports clients worldwide by building custom on-site testing environments that meet the same rigorous standards as its international facilities.
A warm thank you to Ericsson Taiwan for your hospitality and for sharing a meaningful glimpse into the world of connectivity and innovation.
