Walpurga (or Valborg in Swedish) was a Christian saint, but the roots of the Swedish Walpurgis celebration can be traced back to pagan traditions. Walpurgis Night marks the arrival of spring, and serves as an occasion for frivolity and festivities, especially among students. Large bonfires are lit with the purpose of scaring away witches, but also to ”replace the old” (舊的不去新的不來).
Here in Taiwan, we won’t have a lit bonfire, but we in the Young Professionals group will have a lit karaoke night together.
We meet at a small stir fry restaurant called 鮮定味生猛海鮮（長安店）on Chang’an East Road in Zhongshan District.
After dinner together, we move to Est Karaoke Bar on Nong’an Street, also in Zhongshan District.
